This service is offered during a pregnancy and entails a discussion about the various testing options while being pregnant. The options include various screening tests, for specifically chromosomal conditions like Down syndrome, including non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT). These screening tests are offered to all couples where the mother is 35 years and older. Invasive prenatal diagnostic testing (CVS, amniocentesis and cordocentesis) is discussed if the ultrasound scan and other screening tests indicate a high risk for a genetic syndrome. Couples who have a personal and/or family history of a certain genetic condition may also benefit from this service, in order to determine whether their current pregnancy is at risk.
